Large parrots love to chew
African greys, cockatoos and Amazons can destroy many items within reach. Parrot-proof the room when you are away: secure cables, remove toxic houseplants and watch travel carriers—they can chew latches open.
Phones, chargers, pens, papers and indoor plants are risky. Many common houseplants are toxic to birds.
Stress-related feather plucking
In greys and cockatoos, stress can cause plucking—often confused with a normal moult. Head feathers may remain while body feathers are damaged. Remove stressors and seek veterinary help if plucking continues.
